Charge the National Academy of Sciences with establishing guidelines for acceptable science curricula and textbooks

Created by R.S. on June 20, 2013

Whereas, Science is an ever-evolving body of study and most schoolboards and politicians are not experts in any field of science and,

Whereas, the National Academy of Science (NAS) was established and "charged with providing independent, objective advice to the nation on matters related to science and technology" and whose members are "Scientists ... elected by their peers to membership in the NAS",

We petition;

1) That the NAS be charged with establishing a set of guidelines to identify appropriate topics, themes and theories for K-12 education as well as recommended age-ranges for each.

2) That the NAS create a textbook certification program for science textbooks.

3) That all federally funded science education adhere to these guidelines and use only NAS certified textbooks.
