With rapists like Brock Turner being released after only 3 months in prison, it does nothing or little to reprimand and prevent rapists in the future, or currently. By creating a sizeable sentence, we are adding a well deserved stigma to the crime, and therefore working towards preventing it.
With rapists, such as Brock Turner, being let free after such little time, it makes those who could be targetted feel unsafe, and by putting this law in place, we can change that.
