Trace O’Connell was just one in a group who hurled beer and shouted racial slurs towards Native American Children at a Rapid City Rush hockey game but the only one charged with any crime, a misdemeanor disorderly conduct. The Children from the American Horse School on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, who had been rewarded with a school trip for achieving good grades, seem likely to learn a lesson that not every type of person in America receives justice, a terrible lesson, but one it seems the South Dakota Court has decided to teach.
