Article VI, section 1 of the US constitution states: "All Debts contracted and Engagements entered into, before the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation." This should apply to all debts entered into after the adoption of the constitution.
any lawmaker who has sworn to uphold our constitution must honor this country's debts. to hold the national debt hostage to any bill or politcal ideal is a clear act of treason and should be treated as such. the last time the debt ceiling was held up by the house of representatives, the country's credit rating was downgraded and our economy put in serious jeapordy. It also had a negative impact on other countries in the world. We can not allow this to happen again.
