Child Tax Credit Age increase to 19 from age 17

Created by D.B. on April 20, 2014

The Child Tax Credit and Additional Child Tax Credit that parents with minor children will continue to enjoy for the next five years is the $1,000 Child Tax Credit. This credit is given only to families with children up to age 17. Why at age 17? why not 18 or 19? Most children do not leave home to go to college is at 18 1/2 years old with a few at age 18. This credit only applies to taxpayers who can claim their child as a dependent and who meet all of the Child Tax Credit requirements. We would like to ask Congress and the President to increase the age and/or the amount to $1,200 and change the income from 110K to 150K or higher. The Cost of keeping up with the kids in these days along with trying to save for college (pre paid college) has increased over 100%. Need that pay raise!
