Children should not be diagnosed with ADD/ADHD until the age of 13, or the child's entry into 6th grade.

Children should not be diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder until they reach the age of 13, or enter the 6th grade. A large majority of children who are considered "hyperactive" or "not totally in focus" do not have ADD or ADHD. What they have is, childhood syndrome. Kids are supposed to run around and explore. And I do not know any children in elementary school who do not get distracted in class at least ten times. Getting miss diagnosed and as a result being given medication can cause serious health problems to people who do not need medication. This needs to be debated, and a law has to be put into place to protect the health and safety of our children, as well as correctly diagnose children with learning disabilities.
