Christopher Columbus was a slave trader who committed many atrocities in the quest for personal wealth, including the sale of children into sexual slavery. Such a man does not deserve the respect and admiration of the American people. The Obama administration should propose that Columbus Day be officially rescinded by an act of Congress that condemns his acts as crimes against humanity and creates a new federal holiday honoring the cultures and sacrifices of the native peoples of the Americas and their contributions to our republic.
