The goal of this petition is to increase safety. While most individuals reviewing this position are careful on the road, some are not, and place others in danger due to the lack of consequence of their decline in judgement. Tailgating, or following too closely to another vehicle, should not be considered anything but reckless. Everyone is a good driver and has great breaking abilities ninety-nine percent of the time; it is the one percent that one loses focus or coordination, or encounters an unseen variable from another car, that costs lives and the quality thereof. Keeping safe distance is key. The second goal is to keep families safe. A speeding car on a residential road can kill. There is no rush big enough to end a life. 10mph faster only gives 10min on a 70mi drive. The cost?
