The United States Federal Government as the victorious party in the US Civil War should claim the various flags and emblems of the former Confederate States of America as its intellectual property. Doing so would be to ensure that these historic emblems of our nations history will not be used for inappropriate commercial or public purposes. While leaving their Constitutionally protected "fair use" applications unaffected.
