Limitations on US citizens' rights to the purchase and ownership of firearms are a contentious issue among Americans, with valid arguments both for and against their existence and extension.
However, safeguards restricting firearm sales to potentially dangerous individuals should not be controversial; several are already in place in some capacity and are merely in need of proper regulation and enforcement at the national level.
This is a petition to:
1) Make FBI background checks mandatory prior to all firearm purchases, in all states.
2) Flag purchases from customers currently undergoing psychiatric care (potentially with notes on numerous or large purchases)
3) Require psychiatrists to report concerns to authorities, who could then link to the FBI gun database to see prior purchases
