Marijuana is considered illegal under the Controlled Substances Act of 1970 and is listed as a Schedule 1 substance. Schedule I substances are those that have the following findings:
The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.
The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.
Since the passing of this Act, we have found that these statements are false and that marijuana is far less harmful than substances that are legal and easily available. Therefore, we urge you to petition Congress to make it a much lesser scheduled substance to help those that may benefit from it and decriminalize it on a Federal level
