A recent influx of violence against women has proven that things need to change. These acts of violence against women are not random, and they are not isolated incidents. Women are not chosen as targets because of their convenience. Studies have shown that serial rapists, murderers and abusers commit crimes against women because of their hatred of them. They are chosen as targets simply because they're women. This falls under the FBI's classifications of hate crimes. The underlying cause for all of these acts of violence is always brushed off as mental illness and ignored by the media, when the true reason has always been hatred. In order for things to be able to change, violence against women including rape, sexual assault and stalking must be classified as a hate crime.
