We need a clean needle exchange for Palm Beach County in Delray Beach, Florida. New local chronic hepatitis C cases are up a 73.5%. Newly diagnosed Florida HIV cases, meanwhile, are up 27% over three years. According to the Center for Disease Control, the one-time use of sterile syringes remains the most effective way to limit HIV and HEP-C associated with injection drug use. As of right now Florida only has one clean needle exchange pilot program in Miami-Dade County approved to be run through University of Miami. This wonderful bill pass in March called the Miami-Dade Infectious Disease Elimination Act (IDEA). This is a huge step, but we need faster interventions for harm reduction in Florida. The evidence based research proves that these clean needle exchange programs work.
