Close the 71 inland Border Patrol checkpoints and focus enforcement closer to the actual border

Created by M.S. on August 14, 2014

In 2009 I drove from Prague to Vienna to Budapest. I had free movement across national borders thanks to the Schengen Agreement. During my US road trip this month I was stopped at Border Patrol checkpoints 3 times.

These checkpoints limit my civil right to free movement within my own country. Stops, interrogation and searches are something one would expect in former soviet bloc nations. Ironically, I can now travel more freely between many of these nations than I can here in America.

I come from a family with 125 years of federal law enforcement experience. I support Border Patrol using line watch and roving patrols. I oppose permanent checkpoints. We need a secure border. Put Border Patrol on the border and give Americans the right of free movement within their own country.
