Close the Budget Deficit By Subjecting the Pentagon and Other Government Programs To Thorough and Transparent Audits

Created by D.M. on January 14, 2013

In 2001, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld stated that the Pentagon could not account for 25% (or $2.5 Trillion) of its annual budget. It would seem quite logical that this type of waste, if properly curtailed, could very easily close our budget deficit. We call on the Administration to explain what has been done in the past 12 years to stop this failure in accounting controls.

This petition calls for the Obama Administration to provide the public with a detailed plan for auditing governmental departments; primarily the Pentagon. In determining how to audit these departments, the Administration should allow for public comment similar to agency rule making under the APA. The results of any audit should be subject to review by a non-political group of volunteers (no conflicts).
