Close the Chicago Diversion Permanently to Save the Great Lakes.

Created by A.S. on November 19, 2011

As our largest freshwater ecosystem, and the source of a substantial amount of commerce, trade, and income that many Americans depend on daily, this country cannot afford to allow the Great Lakes waterways to be devastated by invasive species.. The invasion of the Great Lakes by Asian Carp has the potential to cause much devastation through the destruction of the ecosystem and natural resources, injury to humans, and harm to the 7 billion dollar fishing and 16 billion dollar sports industries that the Lakes represent. This petition is to solve this problem by closing the Chicago Diversion: A series of canals and locks that connect the Mississippi River to Great Lakes. Closing this connection is the only way to stop the Asian Carp from creating a viable community within the Lakes.
