The combination of partisanship and high tempers has resulted in a divided nation. The whitehouse.gov website's "create a petition" portion lends credence and an "official air" to ideas and concepts that are potentially damaging to the healing of our nation, regardless of their validity. While free speech should certainly be preserved, inflammatory petitions that are primarily symbolic in nature, yet are presented as far more, have the potential to create civil unrest that this country can ill afford. We believe it is best to close down the "create a partition" portion of the site while we wait for cooler heads to prevail.
