close down Guantanamo Bay as was promised in 2008.

Created by S.G. on April 15, 2013

The United States Government operates a detainment facility at Guantanamo Bay, putting it outside U.S. legal jurisdiction. Because of this, detainees have been denied habeas corpus and subjected to torture tactics under interrogation.

The existence of this facility goes against American values of justice and human rights, and furthermore violates International Law.

According to reports, there are at least 86 detainees who were approved for release three years ago, but are still in detention. At least 47 detainees have been detained without charge. There are also reports that detainees have been subjected to torture and sexual humiliation.

In the 2008 campaign, President Obama promised to close down Guantanamo Bay. The American people want to hold the administration to that promise.
