Close the extra-territorial prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. and re-instate the 800 year old principal of Habeas Corpus.

Created by C.W. on January 13, 2013

We petition our government to close Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as an extra-territorial prison. It violates the senses for our government to pretend prisoners with dubious violations of doubtful international and/or national law must be detained outside our national jurisdiction even though that territory is within our total control. Such a holding may be within legal descriptions, but, cannot be condoned on rational grounds. Either it is, or is not our territory. If it is, the inhabitants are within our jurisdiction. If it is not, how is it that we exert ultimate control over it?

Re-instate the 800 year old concept of Habeas Corpus. No law of war provides for prisoners to be detained indefinitely without representation or trial. The Nuremberg trials proved that.
