Guantanamo Bay was established during the Bush years to imprison and torture suspected terrorists. Many of the imprisoned have since been set free or repatriated. The Office of Military Commissions was established to try prisoners who continue to be held. Remaining prisoners have been tortured and jailed without trial for 10 years or more. The system bears no relationship to the U.S. justice system as prosecutors have the final word on the defense's resources, budget and witnesses. The Federal Rules of Evidence do not apply. Accused should be tried in US Courts and can stay in US prisons for a fraction of the cost of Guantanamo. The mere existence of this prison camp is an embarassment to our country and diminishes our standing in the world.
