Close Guantanamo Bay and End Indefinite Detention

Created by C.S. on May 12, 2013

This petition urges President Obama to use the powers of his executive office and role of Commander in Chief to honor his promise to the American people and people of the world to do the right thing and end the indefinite detention of prisoners in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, which Amnesty International has called "the gulag of our times." There have been credible reports of torture and abuse. 86 prisoners approved for transfer remain there, now on hunger strike and being force-fed. This is a clear violation of human rights, it is against everything America stands for, and has been a key selling point for Al Qaeda in gaining new recruits to fight the US.
