Close the Guantanamo Bay detention camp, and end the torture and maltreatment of the detainees.

Before his first term as president, Barack Obama promised to close one of our nations most terrifying steps in the "War on Terror": Guantanamo Bay detention camp. The reasons are obvious: countless human rights violations, the released detainees who had, in fact, done nothing at all, but were subject to torture and abuse anyway, and the act of placing the camp outside of US jurisdiction so that the detainees could be prevented from getting the same treatment that our country offers all criminals, suspected or otherwise. With Guantanamo's continued operation we, as a nation, are condoning unlawful indefinite detainment, torture, forced confessions, maltreatment of prisoners, all of these things which go against the Geneva Conventions. Barack Obama did try to close it, but failed. Try harder
