close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility and move convicted terrorists into maximum security prisons.

Created by M.M. on April 17, 2013

The prison at the military base in Guantanamo Bay has held those suspected of terrorism without official legal charges being filed since January 2002 in response to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City.

This violates their rights as people under the Fifth, Eighth, and Fourteenth Amendments protecting against cruel and unusual punishment and allowing for due process of law to be exercised.

While that act of terrorism has shaped our country for years to come, we as a nation are sending a double standard to the world by imprisoning foreign nationals suspected but not officially accused of terrorism. The system might actually work if we use it. Give it a chance!
