The very existence of Guantanamo Bay in 2013 is a tragedy. It has been a place of torture and despair, even now inmates with no hope for release or judicial process are being held.
This is not an issue of innocence, this is an issue of human rights.
There is nothing stopping the president from closing Guantanamo except for political cowardice.
In order for America to move forward as a credible player in world affairs this black mark on its record must be addressed.
