It is against basic American principles of justice to hold people indefinitely without a trial. Our justice system is built on the principle that each person is held innocent until proven guilty.
The indefinite detention of Guantanamo Bay prisoners is also against our belief and practice that there should be no cruel and unusual punishment.
Many Guantanamo Bay prisoners were simply at the wrong place in the wrong time; many are low level fighters who are not linked in any way to terrorism.
The remaining prisoners should be either tried in the US and held in US federal prisons or released to their home countries.
This is what our own American standards of justice and human rights demand.
