President Obama campaigned for his first term in office with the promise to close the Guantanamo base and put an end to torture practices conducted by the military, intelligence agencies or other representatives of the United States. None of the promises were fulfilled.
Not only the Guantanamo military base is still open, but it still holds prisoners without any transparency. This happens in American military bases all over the world. Places like the Abu Ghraib prison are still in operation, even after all the horrible evidence of high crimes being committed.
All prisoners, military or otherwise, must be charged and prosecuted or released. No form of torture can be accepted, institutionalized under euphemisms or outsourced to private entities or foreign powers.
