Medicaid and medicare is currently set up so that the income limit for a married couple who are both on Social Security Disability is the same as a single person on Social Security Disability.
The system combines their income from SSD, but does not combine their income limit as well, such that their income solely from SSD will always exceed their income limit for medicaid and force them into an unaffordable 'spenddown'.
This means that for many, the only way to keep receiving necessary medical care is to either divorce or starve as half of their combined income has to go to medical care simply because they are married.
Make the income limit for medicaid at minimum equal to combined SSD payments for married couples who are both disabled.
