Every day at the Maricopa County jails, inmates endure abuse while they are in the power of the sheriff, Joe Arpaio. Several people have died at the jails, and others were forced to live in tents in the scorching desert heat. Also, inmates are often given no more than two meals a day and often receive rotten food.
Many of the inmates at the jail are nonviolent offenders who have done petty crimes. Also, many of the inmates have not even had their trial yet. Yet they are living in horrible conditions where their most basic human rights are taken away, and some have ended up dead. It is time to close the Maricopa County jails or at least make some significant changes. It is also time to bring Joe Arpaio to justice.
