Conscription for military service goes against everything the United States stands for. This nation is built on the idea of freedom, and a person should have the freedom to decide whether or not to risk their life in a war they may or may not agree with.
Though the draft has not been active since the 1970's, the United States still has a government agency whose sole duty is to register young men in case it would ever need to be resumed.
We ask the Obama administration to close this agency. Compulsory military service violates the rights of human beings and interferes with a persons right to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." The end of the Selective Surface System would signify that if war were to come again, this nation's young men would not be sent to die against their will
