We petition the Obama administration to remove Columbus Day as a federal holiday. Columbus was not the first one to discover America, he labeled Native Americans as “Indians”, and Christopher Columbus was responsible for widespread genocide of Native Americans throughout America.
Christopher Columbus was the start of a series of widespread genocide of Native Americans.Within 60 years 250,000 Native Americans were left out of around 12,000,000, a 95% decrease. The Europeans brought many diseases with them including, small pox, mumps, and measles. Christopher Columbus enslaved hundreds of Natives to be his servants and work for him. He also sold Natives as slaves in the slave market of Europe.
