The UC students need the President to support them in their fight against the UC Regents.
The Regents, headed by Janet Napolitano, have passed 5% tuition increases for the next 5 years. As if this is not heartbreaking enough it comes on the heels of enormous salary raises for UC chancellors and executives (some salaries nearing 1 million per year) and, worst of all, staunch opposition and downright refusal to comply with law AB94 which requires the UC system to disclose how it spends its money. These facts indicate corruption at the expense of the students.
By refusing to let the public evaluate how money is spent Napolitano is not only breaking the law but ravaging the central idea of publicly funded schools.
If education becomes a privilege for the wealthy this country will fall.
