Ferguson protestors have a legitimate right to protest in response to the shooting of Michael Brown and the feelings of racial oppression that the incident has inflamed. Yet, in the past few days the protestors, as a group, have been demonized as looters and outlaws. They are not. They just want a government that treats them as people.
In the past few days, in response to property destruction by a small and unrepresentative portion of protestors, the Missouri Governor dispatched the National Guard. This is understandable. However, these people are decrying oppression and now, optically at least, there is an occupying force in their backyard.
Don't be an occupying force. Make these kind people turkey and mashed potatoes. Show that you don't oppose legitimate protests. #Weareovercoming!
