On February 26, Azerbaijani- and Turkic-Americans will commemorate the 1992 Khojaly Massacre, when Armenian forces assaulted the town of Khojaly in Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. 613 fleeing residents of Khojaly, including 106 women and 63 children, have been subjected to one of the most brutal incidents of mass killing and trampling of human rights in modern history. Human Rights Watch described it as the worst massacre of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict and a violation of the customary law on the treatment of civilians in war zones.
Ahead of the 21st anniversary of the Khojaly Massacre, friends of the Pax Turcica Institute call for a Presidential message commemorating the victims of this atrocity and urging a peaceful settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict.
