Yes there is a Smithsonian American Indian Museum at the mall, but it focuses on the cultures of the indigenous people of the continent. It does not Pay attention to the fact that we, Americans, committed genocide against the people who already inhabited this great land.
We believe that people like Sacajawea and Squanto who helped build this nation and people like the Cherokee Nation, the Nez Perce and countless others who we unjustifiably killed should be honored.
We also believe that it is of the upmost importance that many tribes are represented because the tribes are all somewhat different. Only representing a minority of them would serve as a horrible generalization against many others.
