The American people is counting on you to lead our country forward, using science and facts, and make climate change a priority for your administration by forging ahead in developing the energy technology called Liquid-Fluoride Thorium Reactor, or LFTR (reads as “lifter”). The U.S. invented it and China is now taking the lead.
Unlike present-day, conventional, uranium power plants, LFTR will not need any of the following. LFTR requires:
1. No nine-inch thick steel pressure vessel;
2. No concrete containment building;
3. No fuel fabrication;
4. No active safety systems;
5. No water for cooling.
LFTR can and must be developed, but only if the political will and climate to move it forward exist, as Kennedy fostered for the U.S. space program and landing the first man on the moon.
