commission expert scientists to investigate psychopathy as a source of congressional dysfunction and corruption

Psychopaths lack the normal ability to process emotions and are thus unable to genuinely care about others. This condition is fairly common, but rarely results in the sensational violence typically portrayed. Psychopaths tend to be charismatic people that exploit others using subtle manipulation. They are self-serving and deceitful, but can look like confident leaders. Experts believe “successful” psychopaths thrive in corporate and political environments. Psychopathy may be preventing Congress from best serving the people. We ask the Obama Administration to commission a nonpartisan team of psychologists and neurobiologists to publicly investigate this possibility. If psychopaths are unlikely to be good public servants, candidates should be objectively screened before elections.
