Although the President has made many statements about reform of federal drug policy, especially marijuana, he has taken no action to do so. Over half the country is in support of marijuana legalization, yet the federal government does not allow states to legalize the drug. The War on Drugs has does nothing to decrease the use of drugs, only increase the waste in resources and lives. The President has often stated that drugs should be viewed as a health problem, yet his administration has increased the amount spent treating the issue as a criminal problem in the form of the of War on Drugs. Politicians in Washington keep talking about cutting the budget; well this seems like a good place to start. We ask that the President to commit to action on the issue in his 2012 State of the Union.
