In 2009 Obama stated, "My administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in government", when starting his Open Government Initiative. Unfortunately the initiative primarily works to "make information about how government works more accessible to the public". (Open Government Status Report) Basically making government appear transparent, rather than creating additional transparency. It also was involved in the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA); however, in light of the recent leaks, FOIA didn't live up to the publics standards in improving transparency. We believe that "citizens are entitled to know what, how, and why government does what it does", (Open Government Status Report) and we demand that you commit to initiating true open government in America.
