America wastes staggering amounts of taxpayer monies by maintaining a global military presence in foreign countries. This imperial model is unsustainable and a massive drain on domestic resources. It fuels animosity toward America, and it drains public coffers of much needed funds for school teachers, job creation at home and infrastructure. The only way to maintain peace and prosperity in the long term is to abandon the global imperial project and to stop the use of aggressive military actions and coercion against other countries. As President Obama has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, he should consider living up to this title.
