Commit to a truly equal representative democracy and abolish "In God We Trust" as the nation's motto.

Created by T.Y. on April 10, 2016

Thank you for taking an interest in this petition. We are the Secular Student Alliance of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. We fight for the separation of church and state, and we have created this petition to hopefully do away with a motto that marginalizes a great portion of the people of the United States. One of the most beautiful aspects of our nation is that is a melting pot of nationalities, ideas, and world views. Thus in order for our government to accurately represent this patchwork of people, it must be as neutral as possible. To that end, the current motto should be abolished in favor of the motto for the Seal of the United States: "E Pluribus Unum". This motto, meaning "one from many", reflects the unparalleled unity that makes this nation so amazing!
