The United States of America uses First-Past-the-Post (hereinafter FPTP) voting in its federal elections. In this system a single vote is cast for a single candidate and the candidate with the most votes wins.
Other voting systems exist. In some, votes are cast preferentially and if a first choice candidate fails then a vote will be transferred rather than wasted.
FPTP has put America in a position of choosing between two major parties. The populace feels that voting for a third-party candidate is a waste of a vote and the people are forced to settle.
We petition the President to commit to work toward replacing FPTP voting with a superior system and to seek further public input into the system to be selected.
