We demand mandatory minimum sentencing for crimes where a firearm is used. We need protection and this is the way to do it and not violate rights of the people.
Gun control laws do not work; despite 30+ years of such laws (20,000+) and 29 scientific studies that show they don't work - people still clammier for more in a delusional hope things will change.
The UK Banned handguns following a similar mass school shooting in 1997. In the last 15 years they have now become the most violent nation on earth (UN report). Violent crime is now 55%, handgun violence 88% (590% in some areas). The NY Times said this is proof of the old adage "take away guns and only criminals will have them."
One set of laws has worked: "Truth in Sentencing" it keeps criminals that use guns off the streets.
