Charging for baggage is unfair to the consumer and demonstrates capitalism (profit motive) at its worse. The airlines originally implemented the fees when there was an oil crisis and they had to pay additional for fuel ... understandable. However, there has not been a real oil crisis in years. The "taste' of those exorbitant profits have gotten to the airlines. There is really no faster way to travel and people are pretty much "hostage" to this policy. An article from @CNNMoney Dec 2015 - "Total operating profits in the industry reached $8.8 billion, according to a report from the Department of Transportation. That's up 61% from a year earlier for the period that includes most of the summer travel season." Prove to me it's not primarily from charging for baggage.
