Colony Collapse Disorder in commercial honeybee hives is a growing problem in agricultural regions. Honeybee pollinators are critical elements in productive agriculture for most of the food crops on which we depend. The use of systemic pesticides based on Neonicotinoids has been linked to this collapse. Neonicotinoid based pesticides such as imidacloprid have become the most common pest control mechanism in the bulk of the world and Colony Collapse Disorder has spread just as the use of imidacloprid has. Areas suffering from this problem that have banned the use of these pesticides has seen significant rebounding in bee populations.
Until testing currently under development at the EPA has been completed, the interests of the US would be served by withdrawing the EPA's approval.
