compel US auto-makers to offer the high MPG cars they sell in Europe here at home.

In the US, we remain severely limited in our ability to acquire truly fuel efficient vehicles. Cars for sale here at home still average below 30mpg. Cars in Europe are averaging close to 48mpg. US auto manufacturers in Europe are heavily invested in that market producing cars that achieve >60mpg with internal combustion engines that are not hybrids. Examples include the Chevrolet Aveo 1.3 VCDi 95 eco which achieves 64mpg. Ford has the Ford Fiesta Econetic (and other models) that achieve 65mpg. Chrysler has the Chrysler Ypsilon 1.3 M-Jet/0.9 TwinAir of which the diesel gets 61mpg. All of these cars cost less than $20,000. My appeals to the US automakers have been summarily rejected with reasons not extending beyond "unavailable". I would be first in line to purchase one of these !
