Although spouses support the military member during their career, they do not have to endure the daily challenges that the military member has to go through (i.e. deployments, long hours, stringent physical fitness standards and etc.). After 20 or more years of service, a military member can be left with next to nothing if the spouse receives up to 50% of their military pension during a divorce. Although most military members realize that their pension will not be enough to allow them to fully retire after retirement, some members that do not have the opportunity to retire at the top military ranks will receive a very small pension.
