Marissa Alexander, a 31-year-old woman and mother of 3, MBA had no prior criminal record and was attacked by her husband who has a known and documented history of domestic abuse on August 1, 2010. Marissa was arrested after she fired a warning shot into the wall to attempt to scare off her abusive husband. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
