Letting the states become a separate country is possible and could work, but is unrealistic. The states who want to become a separate country should compromise to instead become a United States territory. Therefore, they can make there own laws, govern how they please, and defend themselves. The territory and the Union should continue with close relationships to one another. This will keep the country in close relations with the states but also let them govern themselves their way and let them live and run by their own means.
