9/2/2016- At 2AM, Hong Kong police open fire in Mong Kok with two “warning shots” after a protest by angry, UNARMED food hawkers in Portland Street who had been targeted in an crackdown by food and hygiene officials.
The gunshots are NOT legal under the Police Force Ordinance.
Unidentified protesters – a large number of them ‘localists’ who campaign for varying degrees of independence for Hong Kong – protested with bottle and brick throws, while police retaliated with pepper spray & batons.
Mong Kok, the scene of some of the worst unrest during the Occupy protests in 2014, remains tense.
The police refuse to apologise for their misbehaviour and claimed that the police had no choice since they were being attacked.
Many were injured.
