On January 16th, 2014 the Ukrainian parliament passed illegal, unconstitutional laws restricting political speech and the freedoms of assembly, association, and press, taking Ukraine out of the community of free nations, and placing it under a Soviet-style tyranny. Russian pressure on Ukraine has forced it to drop plans for European integration, in favor of increased Russian influence. It is now critical that the White House stand up not only to the Ukrainian regime, but also push back against Russia’s “nostalgic” policy of interfering in the internal affairs of its neighbors. We urge the administration to urgently impose sanctions on Ukrainian officials responsible for human rights violations. Mr. President, please do all that you can to help the Ukrainian people stand up to the tyranny.
